84th Annual and 84thMost Boring Academy Awards.

Here are the winners for the 84th Annual — and 84th Most Boring — Academy Awards. Highlights included the Christopher Guest skit, Chris Rock presenting, Will Ferrel/Zach Galifaniakis banging cymbals, Angelina Jolie’s leg, Emma Stone, and nothing else. I’m typically very forgiving of awards ceremonies because I appreciate them in principal, but I’m a little embarrassed that I write about an industry in which this is the yearly culmination. That said, before the backlash begins, I thought The Artist — of the nominees — deserved the Oscar, but that’s only because neither Drive nor 50/50 were nominated. I don’t have a problem withHugo winning most of the boring awards, either.

Overall, I’m disgusted with the telecast, and with how little joy or enthusiasm was on display this year.
